Tenuta Masselina is situated in Castelbolognese , in Emilia Romagna, 50 km south east of Bologna on the ridge of hills between Imola and Faenza.
Tenuta Masselina lies in the Serra subzone, the most westerly of the Romagna sangiovese D.O.C. It Covers an area of 22 hectares of which 16 consist of vineyards and 6 of woodland. The cultivated land of Tenuta Masselina lies between the area of the ancient red lands and the calcareous lands of the lower Apennines of Romagna. Specialized in growing indigenous grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Albana, Grechetto Gentile Pignoletto and Trebbiano Tenuta Masselina also produces Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon internationally renowned cultivars that express themselves particularly well in these soils
At present, about 40 000 bottles are produced by the estate. Tenuta Masselina’s vineyards are organically farmed, and the estate uses solar geothermal energy for its winemaking operations as well as to regulate the temperature in the maturation cellars.
The name of the wine is a number that corresponds to the altitude of the vineyard. Pignoletto, is made with 100% Grechetto Gentile grapes.
Vinification: Soft pressing, clarification of the must and temperature-controlled fermentation
Maturation: On its fine lees for 60 days, in stainless steel
Prise de mousse: Re-fermentation in pressurized tanks using the Charmat Method, until it attains a pressure of 2 bar.
Excellent as an aperitif with finger food and appetizers, but also throughout a meal. It is delicious with hors d’oeuvres, pasta or rice recipes and fish dishes.
